How RMIT delivers academic mentoring at scale with a lean team

Recorded on the 21st of May 2026

As mentoring programs grow, the challenge isn’t just reaching more students, it’s doing it without overwhelming the team behind the work.

Daniella Hutchings and her team at RMIT know that challenge well.

With a lean team, they run a large academic peer mentoring program across campuses, supporting more than 500 mentors in a semester while continuing to focus not just on delivery, but on mentor development too.

In this session, Daniella will share how the program has evolved over time, including the systems and processes RMIT has put in place to make that scale possible.

From reducing admin workload to creating more space for meaningful feedback and development, it’s a thoughtful example of how to grow a program without losing sight of what matters.
